You can’t have a picnic without a cheese board, but making your own board can be a daunting task. We’re here to help! Your board should be cohesive but still offer a variety of different flavors and textures. Here’s what you need to assemble a cheese board that EVERYONE will love.
- Step 1. Prepare four different cheeses—We like Manchego or Parmegiano Reggiano, Mt Tam, Blue cheese, Humbolt Fog (a goat cheese)
- Step 2. Mix in fresh fruit like grapes, strawberries, apricots, cherries, and blackberries
- Step 3. Add the final touches with—nuts, crackers, honeycomb, and fruit jam.
- Step 4. Now for the fun part. Arrange the elements onto a wooden platter and make it cute!
The cheese board featured in these photos is created by the talented Melissa Clark of Fairchild’s Fromage. If you are in the New Jersey area and can’t even fathom creating a board as beautiful as hers, dial her up and order one for yourself!

On the Apple Salad: You may need to whisk again before drizzling over the salad to make sure the oils and vinegars are well combined. They will separate if left alone too long.
On the CheeseBoard: They're truly a work of art so take your time when assembling it—it takes about 20 mins.
On the Pressed Italian Sandwich: Before assembling, split the bread in half and scoop out the inside of both the top and bottom, leaving a 1/2-inch thick shell.
On the Key Lime Pie Cheesecakes in Jars: Spoon 2 tablespoons of the crust into each of the 6 half pint jars and gently press into the bottom—then add the filling.
